Happy Living, Healthy Life

Healthy, Happy and Hip!

Can you believe the first quarter of 2019 is already behind us? I think time is moving a bit faster than it used to? Is that possible?

For me, the beginning of a new quarter is like starting a brand-new year. I set new goals to that will bring me closer to my vison. Did you meet your goals this quarter? Did you even set any? Or are you like so many people who set a goal on January 1st and hope to reach it by December 31st?

Without breaking your goals down into bite sized (quarterly) pieces it’s nearly impossible to track your progress. Think of it this way, if you want to lose 20 pounds in a year that equates to 5 pounds per quarter (every 3 months) which is completely attainable and a lot easier on your psyche.

The end of each quarter is the perfect time to evaluate where you are in the process.

Brian P. Moran wrote a great book called The 12 Week Year that I think is essential for anyone who has ever set a goal for themselves whether personal, professional, or financial. It’s pretty short and sweet so you can read it in one sitting. Get it here.

Evaluating your progress toward your goals at the end of each quarter helps you REFOCUS on your Vision, your BIG picture and provides the opportunity for you to incorporate any lessons you learned in recent months.

Equally important is to RECONNECT with to the reason WHY you are striving to reach this particular goal. Is it your dream or someone else’s? Does it excite you? Are you passionate about it? Does this goal, vison or dream (give it a name) align with who you are, your core values?

If you answered YES to these questions then it’s time to RECOMMIT doing the work that will help you reach your goal.

If you're not quite sure then thisis your chance to RETHINK your Vision.

I'm not saying you should change your Vision but maybe to approach it from a different angle and come up with different solutions that feel more in alignment with who you are and what you want to achieve.

Sometimes staying the course is the best thing to do. In time many things become clear and work themselves out, especially if you are paying attention. You can always make adjustments along the way without changing the main direction.

Too often evaluating goals, especially if someone else is evaluating you and your performance , it can feel very negative and icky. I think it’s vital to your self-esteem, you drive and your desire to celebrate the success you did experience in each quarter. An inventory of sorts!

Maybe you didn't hit your sales goal but you're negotiating with a vendor that no one in your company has ever been able to talk to. Maybe you lost 4 pounds not 5. Celebrate the things that worked!

What gets tracked gets better so when you take inventory of the good stuff you have positive reinforcement that raises your morale and excites you to do even better!

Evaluating your progress every quarter will keep moving toward your Vison, not away from it, so you can reach your goals and fulfil your dreams.

And, that's the point, right?

Roses for Romance Read More about the Oils I LOVE

Aromatherapy for Romance

People have been curious about and interested in aphrodisiacs for as long as they’ve been around. General interest always spikes around Valentine’s Day, but there’s always someone interested in the magical and mysterious world of aphrodisiacs.

From oysters to chocolate to chili peppers, people have been using food to get themselves in the mood for centuries. There are other aphrodisiacs than food that often get overlooked. Essential oils can be used as an aromatherapy technique to spice up your romance.

The most common essential oils used as an aphrodisiac are neroli, rose, patchouli, sandalwood, and ylang ylang. Through reading this article, you will gain a basic understanding of aromatherapy for romantic purposes.

How do essential oils work as aphrodisiacs?

The preferred method for getting the aphrodisiac benefits of essential oils is through aromatherapy, in layman's terms, by smelling them. Inhaling deeply through the nose is one of the quickest methods to absorb all of the essential oil’s many benefits.

The nose has a direct connection to the brain. When you inhale aphrodisiac essential oils deeply, you stimulate the limbic system in your brain, which is responsible for moods and emotions. Inhaling the aphrodisiac essential oils can invoke romantic or sexual feelings.

Neroli oil

Neroli, often called orange blossom, has been traditionally used at weddings to calm the bride and set a romantic mood. The orange blossom flower was frequently placed in the bride’s hair and bouquet because it was thought to calm her nerves and stimulate a romantic wedding night.

Neroli oil was introduced by the princess of Nerola and duchess of Bracciano, Anne Marie de la Trémoille (Orsini) as a fragrance for high society. She perfumed her gloves and stationary with it and put some in her bath. Neroli oil has a heady smell of orange floral undertones.

Rose oil

Most people think of roses when they think of romance, but did you know there’s an oil made from roses that can actually work as an aphrodisiac? Authentic rose oil is highly expensive, so be wary of cheap types you may find, as they’re likely synthetic.

It takes thousands of rose petals to extract the oil, which is why it costs so much to make, but the pungent aroma provides a nice romantic feel. You can put a few drops in your bath or mix it into some lotion or massage oil for a sensual massage.

Patchouli oil

Patchouli oil is most commonly thought of as the incense of choice during the hippy era, however, it originally gained popularity back in the 1800s when it was used as a perfume base in Europe.

This oil has an earthy scent that, when breathed in deeply, can induce feelings of a romantic nature. It can be used in incense, be added to a bath, or be added to your favorite sensual oil or lotion. Patchouli can definitely help you set the mood.

Sandalwood oil

Sandalwood is often brown for its relaxing and meditative benefits. It’s used quite frequently in churches and other religious buildings in the form of incense. It can also be used as an aphrodisiac. It’s most useful when added to massage lotions or baths.

For as long as they’ve been around, people have been interested in aphrodisiacs and other such things to spice up their love life. Most people have tried or heard of using foods as aphrodisiacs but haven’t consider the many options in the world of aromatherapy.

Aphrodisiac essential oils can help you to spice things up in the bedroom easily and naturally.

You never know when or what will prompt a fond memory.

I was sitting at a red light earlier today when something outside my window caught my eye and made me chuckel. It wasn't the actual image that I saw but the memory that it evoked.

The memory is of my dad riding his bicycle and it made me realize how important it is to take the time to creating memories with the people we love.

In our crazy, busy lives are we enjoying our lives and our loved ones or are we simply going through the motions, cellphone in hand seeing he world through the lense of an iPhone camera?

“Life is like riding a bicycle. In order to keep your balance, you must #keepmoving.” — Albert Einstein,.”

Growing up on Long Island we lived a block or so away from the loacal 7-Eleven where he'd stop in for coffee, the newspaper, cigarettes ( yep, he smoked) or any random thing that we had run out of at home. He was there at least twice a day and everyone there knew and loved him. He was a character with a good sense of humor.

When the weather was nice he'd jump on his bike and ride there. I t was a bit of a comical sight because my dad was, well Popeye. Short, stocky, he spoke with a funny accent and had the biggest arms I've ever seen any real man other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The only thing missig was his can of spinach. Which, by the way I never recall him eating.

He's been gone now for 12 years yet I find reminders of him everywhere go. Making memories with the ones you love is so important because you never know how long you'll have them in your life.

As we go into the Labor Day weekend I encourage you to make some amazing memories with the people you love.

Need some ideas?

  • Put down your phone

  • Ignore the text

  • Forget facebook

  • Jump in the lake

  • Go bike riding

  • Turn on the sprinkler then run in

  • Laugh

  • Share an ice cream cone

Most of all have FUN!

You'll never regret the time you spend with those you love and who LOVE you! Memories make the good times good and the not so good times bareable. They are snippets of your life and they're not just yours alone. They also belong to your husband, kids, mom, sister , family and friends. So, be generous!

This Labor Day weekend go ahead and have fun, do hings with the peopel you love that are important to you and create memories that you'll will all cherish!
